What is Impulsis?

Impulsis is a joint program for Dutch small scale development projects.

In The Netherlands numerous people want to contribute to aiding developing countries and the fight against poverty. It is estimated that up to 15.000 private foundations, small scale ngo's and other civil society organizations are active in supporting projects all over the world. Some of the traditional development aid organizations, such as ICCO, Edukans and Kerk in Actie in turn support these initiatives by co-financing projects and helping improve the quality of the support of these organizations.

Impulsis is the joint programme of Edukans, ICCO and Kerk in Actie for supporting Dutch initiatives in their work with local organizations in developing countries. Our partners are foundations, schools, church communities, entrepreneurs and civil society organizations. Impulsis does not only support them financially, but also provides them with advice, sustaining and developing their network and facilitating trainings about important development issues. Impulsis likes to invest in the growth of these small scale organizations and the sustainability of their projects.

How does it work?

Dutch initiatives in development issues can ask Impulsis for financial support if they meet a number of criteria. First of all, they need to be a Dutch based organization with a legal identity, such as a foundation. Also they have to work together with a local organization, not individuals or groups. Impulsis can co-finance up to a maximum of 50% of the budget needed for a specific project or programme. For the first contract (first year) there is a maximum of 20.000 euro. After that Impulsis prefers to invest in long term relationships for a project or programme. Partners should aim for sustainability of the project/organization they support and think about when they will stop being involved even before they begin.

There are also specific additional criteria for different themes, such as educational projects or business development projects.
